The Northland Workforce Training Center, located on the East Side of Buffalo, NY, is a public-private partnership that aims to bridge the skills gap by providing opportunities for local residents to gain knowledge, experience, and employment in advanced manufacturing and clean energy.
Graduates earn jobs with an average starting salary of $44,000+, lifting families out of poverty in some of the lowest-income neighborhoods in Buffalo.
UEC supported NWTC in finding grant funding allowing it to expand its portfolio by adding a new training program—the Auto Tech program. This program trains and prepares people to work in the local automotive industry as technicians—a field for which there is high demand.
NWTC was able to secure a grant award from the NY Power Authority and used these funds to equip its auto tech lab with the latest in core and specialized equipment and technology. Students now receive hands-on, high-quality training to launch a career in the growing and evolving field of automobile technician.
UEC’s support with this grant funded workforce development project helps NWTC advance regional job growth and technical education and change the economic landscape for 100s of families in Western New York.
